Ziegemeier Tree

Before things get too muddied, I thought I should write the family tree as I have it now. I'll start with the ZIEGEMEIER family line with my name and going back in time.

Susan G. Ziegemeier Loftin b. Oct. 13, 1958, St. Charles, MO
   + James Vincent ZIEGEMEIER b. Nov. 17, 1930 St. Charles, MO, d. Feb. 15, 1997 Springfield, MO
Mary Jane Nemec b. Jan. 11, 1933, St. Louis, MO
+Albert Joseph ZIEGEMEIER Sr, b. Apr. 29, 1902 St. Charles Co., MO d. Oct. 5, 1970 St. Charles,     MO
Nellie Delora Morgan b. Jan. 16, 1905 Lincoln Co., MO d. Oct. 29, 1960 St. Charles, MO
          +Franz X. ZIEGEMEIER b. Jan. 25, St. Peters, MO d. Mar. 9, 1935 St. Charles, MO
Philomena Schuette b. Nov. 6, 1865 St. Peters, MO d. Dec. 26, 1928 St. Charles, MO
+James (Joachim) ZIEGEMEIER b. abt. 1824 Hanover, Germany
                    Gertrud b. abt. 1826 Switzerland

Gertrud is someone who is confusing me as I also have information that has James as being married to Margaretha Naff b. 1824 Switzerland, d. 1895 St. Charles Co., MO. Marriage date is 1853 in St. Peters, MO. I don't know if James was married twice or if Gertrud went by more than one name. Or it is possible that I have 2 different James' confused. There are several James Ziegemeiers floating around in ancestry trees and census' and it gets very confusing.

Census Records Show:

1860 Dardenne Township, St. Peters, MO
            James Ziegemeier 37 y/o b. Hanover, Germany married to Margaret 35 y/o b. Switzerland
                Children listed: John 8 y/o b. MO
                                          Batiste 13 y/o b. Switzerland
                                          Gertrude 5 y/o b. MO
                                           Frank 3 y/o b. MO
                                           Henry 3 y/o b. MO
                                           Joseph 1 y/o b. MO

Note: if the marriage date of James and Margaretha is correct as 1853 and in MO, then Batiste is either a brother of James' or his son by a previous marriage, or..... I haven't been able to find Batiste in any other census records.

1870 Dardenne Township, St. Peters, MO
         J. Ziegemeier 49 y/o b. Hanover, married to Margaret 46 y/o b. Switzerland
           Children listed:  John 18 y/o b. MO
                                      Gertrude 16 y/o b. MO
                                      Henry 13 y/o b. MO
                                      Frank 13 y/o b. MO
                                      Joseph 11 y/o b. MO
                                      Elisabeth 3 y/o b. MO

1880 Dardene Township, St. Charles Co., MO
         James Ziegemeier 56 y/o b. Hanover, married to Gertrud 54 y/o b. ?
             Children listed: Gertrud 25 y/o b. MO
                                        Henry 23 y/o b. MO
                                         Frank 23 y/o b. MO
                                        Joseph 21 y/o b. MO
                                        Elisabeth 13 y/o b. MO
                                        James 9 y/o b. MO

James Ziegemeier drops off the census records after this as far as I can find. My on-line source of census records apparently doesn't have the 1890 census for St. Charles Co., MO.

However, the 1900 census lists Frank Ziegemeier 44 y/o living with wife Minnie 34 y/o and have been married 5 years. Minnie has had 6 children with 3 surviving.
    Children listed are: Ottmar b. June 1888 1 y/o
                                    Frank b. May 1899  1 y/o
                                    Leo Algermissen (step-son to Frank) b. Apr. 1888 12 y/o

1910 Census Portage Des Sioux Township, St. Charles Co. MO
Frank Ziegemeier 52 y/o married to Philomina 44 y/o living on Doland Road.
        Children listed: Ottmer 14 y/o
                                   Frank 10 y/o
                                   Albert 8 y/o
                                   Idella 4 y/o
                                   Sylvester 1 y/o

So if anyone can help me clear up the Gertrud/Margaretha mystery I would love to hear from you. I would also like more info on Batiste Ziegemeier if possible.

I am also trying to find when and where James and Margaret/Gertrude immigrated to the U.S. It is believed by family story that they came in at a Louisiana port, but I don't know when and can't find them on any ship registry that is available to me.

I will add on to this tree in future posts, focusing on a particular family name at a time. Nellie Delora Morgan's family has several branches that I have traced back as many as 13 generations. That will be for another day's posting.

Enjoy!
